10/24/03 - Some film/video updates: The 270 Miles From Graceland - Bonnaroo 2003 DVD (released 10/21/03) includes "Sugar Magnolia" by The Dead. An 80 minute PBS special on the Closing of Winterland will be broadcast in some cities tomorrow, Sat. October 25. According to a Canoe News 09/11/03 story (no longer online), Festival Express, a film about the 1970 Canadian tour featuring The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band, et al., "will hit theatres sometime next spring." Regarding the film Sunshine Daydream, Zane Kesey posted a while back on Key-Z.com, "Sam Fields (the owner). . . is waiting for the Dead’s approval to make it into a DVD with out-takes and extra footage. But...WAIT, it seems that he hopes to take it to a theater near you first." That info has since been removed from the site, though. No word yet on a DVD release of The Grateful Dead Movie, but 2004 is the 30th anniversary of the shows featured in that film, so who knows?

10/18/03 - More Jerry Garcia music is coming soon. David Gans wrote:

I can now reveal that I have spent much of the past month or so reviewing all the multitrack tape in the Garcia vault (accompanied much of the time by Blair Jackson). The exact nature of the release schedule has yet to be determined, but we have an amazing team assembled. Stay tuned.

have to clarify something. The archivist for the Garcia vault is JOEL BERNSTEIN, who does that job for Neil Young and is well known for his work with Joni Mitchell, Garham Nash, et al. Joel asked me fo help in identifying some tapes, and I enjoyed listening to some material with him, but the guy doing the gig is Joel, not me.
10/17/03 - From the Boston Globe:
Weir is coming off a triumphant summer of touring with the reconstituted Dead, which now includes singer Joan Osborne. "I thought Joan worked out particularly well. She got the gig," says Weir. As for further Dead plans, he says there's a debate about whether to go out this February on a short tour or wait until next summer, which he favors so he can spend more time with Ratdog. As for any Dead recording, he says, "We'll do it on the road. The technology now allows you to do that."
10/14/03 - The Dead will play as part of the Seva Foundation's Silver Anniversary Concert 12/13/03 at the Berkeley Community Theater.
