Grateful Dead Summer 2001 News

09/09/01 - According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "A new, as-yet-unnamed band featuring drummer Bill Kreutzmann (ex-Grateful Dead), with Neal Schon of Journey on guitar, Sy Klopps on vocals, debuts Oct. 26 at the Fillmore."

09/06/01 - The Golden Road 1965-1973 liner notes and more are online at Rhino.com. Also, it appears that five tracks on the debut album disc are extended versions: Good Morning Little School Girl, Sitting On Top Of The World, Cream Puff War, Morning Dew, and New New Minglewood Blues.

09/03/01 - According to The official RatDog news page, "Ratdog is playing 2 nights with Phil & Friends: 12/30 and NYE. Details coming soon.."

09/02/01 - Here are some details on new/upcoming GD Family music releases:
In addition to the seven hours of previously unreleased material on the upcoming GD box set The Golden Road 1965-1973, there will be some surprises in the re-issued/remastered material. Rhino's James Austin states, "Recently, we discovered material edited from the songs included in their debut album. 'Good Morning Little School Girl,' for example, gets lopped off at 5:56. Included here for the first time is the extra 0:59 seconds of intense studio jamming. This is just one example of the extra highlights that coproducer David Lemieux and I have discovered."
The tracklist and audio samples from the Grateful Dawg CD soundtrack (due 09/11/01) are up at CDNow.
Dead.net gives the tracklist for RatDog's Live at Roseland (available in stores later this Fall or by mail-order now).

08/31/01 - Phil and Friends Fall Tour dates are up.

08/22/01 - The current issue of ICE Magazine gives the tracklist for the upcoming GD box set The Golden Road 1965-1973.

08/10/01 - Mickey Hart and Bembé Orisha Fall Tour dates are up.

08/02/01 - A Sony Pictures website for the upcoming Garcia/Grisman film Grateful Dawg is up. The film is set to open on 10/05/01. Also, according to JerryGarcia.com, "Grateful Dawg will be. . . available on DVD/VHS later this year. Look for the soundtrack on Acoustic Disc, www.acousticdisc.com."

07/14/01 - According to The official RatDog website, "Ratdog's live double CD from the Roseland in Portland, Oregon spring 2001 will be available on the So Many Roads/Furthur Down the Road Tour and via the website starting in August. it will be released in stores following the Sept/Oct Tour."

07/13/01 - Due 09/25/01, the next multitrack Vault Series release will be Brendan Byrne Arena 10/16/89.

07/12/01 - A GD Streaming Live Radio Beta Test Site is up at http://www.deadnetradio.com/; also, according to GD Almanac 8-3, "the idea of a live RatDog album is being bandied about."

07/11/01 - According to Relix.com news, "A Long Strange Trip/The Inside History of the Grateful Dead by Grateful Dead publicist Dennis McNally will be published. . . in the summer of 2002.. . . The hardcover tome is divided into three sections: the social history of the Grateful Dead, a composite year-in-the-life of the band, and a series of chapters on a variety of targeted sub-topics."

07/07/01 - RatDog Fall Tour dates are up.

06/26/01 - According to Mickey Hart's official site, "Mickey will bring his new ensemble, Bembé Orisha, on the road for an 18 date fall tour."
